Wisconsin backs out of home-and-home with Washington

Buried in a release from Washington announcing a pair of home-and-homes with BYU and Michigan is the fact that Wisconsin has backed out of its own series with the "other" UW. The statement reads: "... due to conflicts with its Big Ten Conference schedule, Wisconsin was forced to cancel its two games with the Huskies, previously scheduled for 2018 and 2021." As Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel points out, the Badgers have four Big Ten home games in 2018 and five in 2021.

Melvin Gordon makes CBS Sports' All-American team

CBS Sports released its preseason All-American list Wednesday, including Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon as one of two running backs alongside Georgia's Todd Gurley. Only a first team was released, so Gordon is the only Badgers representative. The other Big Ten players are Iowa offensive tackle Brandon Scherff, Ohio State defensive tackle Michael Bennett and Iowa defensive tackle Carl Davis.

The media didn't see much Monday afternoon, but head coach Gary Andersen did give some insight into the Badgers' second scrimmage.

Gary Andersen indicated Monday that the Badgers won't name a starting quarterback before the season-opener against LSU on Aug. 30.

UW women send 12 players to represent USA, Canada

The United States and Canada will be represented by five Badgers on each side as the two nations meet up in Calgary, Alberta next week.

Former Badgers Bryce Gilbert, Brock DeCicco land at IUP

Bryce Gilbert was one of Wisconsin's more surprising departures when the fall roster was announced back in July. It turns out he, as well as former UW tight end Brock DeCicco, have since enrolled at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. According to the article linked above -- which is the first we've heard of the destinations for Gilbert and DeCicco -- both players are getting first-team reps with the Crimson Hawks.

The Badgers begin No. 14 in the AP's first college football poll of 2014.
