Chris Borland on joining San Francisco 49ers

+

"We’ve gotten a little bit of exposure to those guys and that defense when we had a switch to 3-4. We watched some of their film. We actually implemented a few things the Niners do on defense. So, they’re two of the best in the league and I’m looking forward to learning from them."

49ers.com That's Borland talking about pairing up with linebackers Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman. The full Q&A (plus audio of Borland's conference call) is well worth your time. Among other things, he admits he had no idea the 49ers were interested in him, even though he spoke to head coach Jim Harbaugh at the NFL Combine.

Russell Wilson files for divorce from wife, Ashton, Seattle Seahawks announce

"I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce. Clearly, decisions like these don’t come easy. Ashton and I respectfully ask for prayers, understanding and privacy during this difficult time. Moving forward, I will have no further comment on this personal matter."

Ohio State's Bradley Roby has some interesting comments about Jared Abbrederis

6

"I had a bad game against Wisconsin. A lot of people want to say [Abbrederis] had 10 catches for 200 yards on me, but that’s not how it went. He probably caught four balls on me, but he was a great player. It was at a time when I was kind of slacking. I didn’t start off the season as serious as I should have. I wasn’t playing the first game so maybe I held back in practice. I think that showed in my first half of the season. At cornerback you always have to be fundamentally sound and if you don’t you’re going to mess up."

Kenzel Doe will likely return punts

+

"The punt returner is my favorite player on the team. Because he has to be one of the toughest guys there is. He stands there with his chin up and 11 guys running at him and they all would like to get a free shot on him. Then he has to catch the ball in front of 90,000 people, with the ball moving (in the wind). That skill set is hard."

Gary Andersen on NCAA's new targeting rule

+

"I think it has been a positive movement toward protecting the kids but I also believe we’ve got to be as careful as we can to not take an opportunity away from a young man who doesn’t deserve it… I want to protect the kids but I also hate to take – 12 guaranteed opportunities is all you get – and to take one of them away on a ‘maybe’ concerns me."
