Just because it’s the 4th of July, that doesn’t mean it’s all fun and games. Former Wisconsin basketball player Duje Dukan learned that the hard way, as he was waived by the Sacramento Kings earlier Monday afternoon according to Shams Charania at The Vertical.
Dukan, who was an integral player during the Badgers’ 2015 Final Four run, went undrafted but still managed to secure a two-year contract with the Sacramento Kings last July. He appeared in only one regular-season game for the Kings, where he scored six points, grabbed four rebounds and added one assist in 24 minutes played.
However, Dukan had an excellent stint last season with the Reno Bighorns, Sacramento’s D-League affiliate, averaging 14.5 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in 27 starts.
Now, unless a team claims him off waivers in the next few days, Dukan will become a free agent. It is unfortunate that the Kings chose to release him now, as he will have to scramble to try and make a Summer League roster at the last second. Hopefully, though, some team will give him a shot to earn his spot in the NBA for another season.
