It'd still be nice to have Thomas Hammock coaching Wisconsin's latest crop of talented rushers, but he's at least given input on a possible ideal replacement. On his way out of Madison, Hammock reportedly recommended Syracuse running backs coach DeAndre Smith, per Tom Mulhern of the Wisconsin State Journal. Hammock played for Smith at Northern Illinois, rushing for 1,095 yards as a junior under Smith in 2001 before a heart condition shortened Hammock's career. Of course, a recommendation is just a recommendation, but Hammock's opinion almost assuredly carries some weight. Smith's experience also speaks for itself -- he's coached nine thousand-yard rushers and three eventual NFL running backs in 15 years.
