The Birth of a New Benchmark

Jaw-Dropping. Amazing. Dominant. Transcendent. Legendary.

Words almost fail to describe the display we were all fortunate enough to watch from Melvin Gordon. What we saw tonight was the most talented running back in the country utilize every last bit of his potential to etch his name in the record books. Move over Alan Ameche. Move over Montee Ball. Move over Ron Dayne. We are currently watching the best running back to ever don the Cardinal and White. But what Gordon did goes far beyond the Wisconsin football program.

Tonight, we saw Gordon deliver an emphatic answer to the question, "Who is the best running in this talented class?" We watched as a great competitor rose to the occasion as Melvin single-handedly brought Wisconsin back from an early deficit, and completely demoralize a good defense that tried desperately to stem the bleeding only to grasp air as Gordon ran through, around, and over them. Quite frankly, tonight we saw Melvin Gordon etch his name on the Heisman Trophy.

But it goes even further than that. Tonight, Melvin Gordon become the new benchmark for college running backs. Not just through his place in the record books, but his place in the national consciousness for lack of a better term. From now on, when people look to a talented up-and-comer, they'll ask, "Is he the next Melvin Gordon?" It's not often you see the birth on the next truly legendary running back, but tonight, Melvin Gordon inherited the mantle from Adrian Peterson.

Tl;dr Don't blink, Melvin Gordon is a once-in-a-decade talent. Also, shut up and give him his damn Heisman.

I'm MelvinGordon4Heisman, 2 year conductor of the Melvin Gordon Hype Train, and I approved this message.
