From the Where Are They Now? department: former Wisconsin kicker Phillip Welch is out in Denver, splitting his time between training to become an Anheuser Busch sales rep and kicking for the Colorado Ice of the Indoor Football League. Welch is two games into that IFL career, and apparently he's had to adjust to a smaller ball (of course) and narrow goal posts (huh. interesting.). Apparently, he can't make every practice (well, he is a kicker), though Anheuser is cool with him missing work to travel with the Ice. The interesting part, and what the Coloradoan (really?) story hits on is the practice time he's forced to spend on his own. Apparently it's helping, though Welch did hit the roof in his last game. Dang arena football. Other notes of interest: 1) He had a tryout with the Chicago Bears after graduating 2) The article says he's had "great success" with the Ice, though he's missed three of 10 field goals and two of nine extra points. OK, Borat.
