Badgers Land Illinois Forward

Illinois forward Seamus Malone is the newest Badger recruit.

15 Year Old Becomes First Badger Recruit For 2015

High end tier 1 prospects Seamus Malone and Jake Linhart are currently teammates with the prestigious Chicago Mission U16 hockey club. It appears that their future as teammates will extend to college at the University of Wisconsin.

Naperville, Ill. native Seamus Malone made the decision to wear the Wisconsin cardinal and white sweater last week, roughly six months after Linhart, a 2014 defensive recruit from Brookfield chose the Badgers.

Malone's commitment to Wisconsin was first reported by the Wisconsin State Journal on Wednesday.

Just finishing up his freshman year of high school, the 15 year old Malone will likely be a 2015 recruit unless he accelerates his schooling to graduate early. Malone is the first Badger commit for 2015.

Malone's father told the Wisconsin State Journal that his son also considered scholarship offers from Yale, Ohio State, Colorado College, Ohio State, and Western Michigan.

Interest in the Illinois native was likely to increase this week, as Malone joined Linhart in participating in the USA National Team Development tryouts in Ann Arbor. The tryouts are one of the tools used to select the U17 national team.

Wisconsin natives invited to camp include Anders Bjork from Mequon (Notre Dame), Luke Davidson from DePere, and Cooper Watson from Appleton in addition to Linhart from Brookfield.

In 28 league games this season for the Mission in the High Performance Hockey League, Malone has recorded 13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points.

Reelhockeyscouting.com has an outstanding scouting report on the newest Badger recruit. Click on the link to watch a video of a game of his from earlier this season.(ISO game, the camera only follows him around. It's excellent, gives you a great perspective on what the kid brings to the table)

Gritty two-way player with an outstanding offensive punch. Is explosive with the puck and his vision. Makes those around him better. His drive with the puck is commanding and forceful, yet his hands own a soft, delicate touch. Deceptive and crafty - can shake pressure and open up lanes for a fast feed or a quick shot. Is a powerful half-board catalyst on the power play.

A quick and mobile skater with outside speed. Can burst in coming wide but needs to work on his strength to gain ground on the inside. Great hockey sense and has an uncanny ability to find the open ice, and to make himself available for the puck at all times. Strong defensive support. Owns a high compete level and is more than willing to get his nose dirty. Needs to work on his focus and intensity when taking draws.

Has the skills and smarts to excel at a higher level. Will be a scary prospect when he finds more strength. Two more years to develop before becoming NHL Draft eligible in 2014.
