2013 Recruit Expected To Join Chicago Soon
After Tim Davison's high school hockey season ended with a lap around the Dane County Coliseum with the state championship trophy hoisted above his head, many wondered about what the future would hold for the 2013 Badger recruit.
Davison chose to fulfill his commitment to join his Team Wisconsin U18 teammates for the 'after' portion of their schedule, which included the WAHA state tournament last weekend in Fond du Lac. Team Wisconsin was eliminated over the weekend, losing to the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals in a shootout on Sunday.
With the high school season and Team Wisconsin behind him, Davison is now free to join the USHL. The Chicago Steel currently hold his rights, as they traded for Tim last May.
I spoke with Chicago's Director of Player Personnel Max Geise on Monday night and he informed me that the plan is to get Davison in a Steel uniform soon. Geise said that they expect Davison in the lineup as soon as March 24th.
"He should get in six games with us by year's end. Myself and coach watched him at state, we love him as a player and kid," Geise said.
Davison will spend all of next season with Chicago before coming to Madison in the fall of 2013, and Geise said they expect big things from the future Badger.
"Tim will be an important player for us next season."
Zulinick's Season Comes To A Close
2012 forward recruit Morgan Zulinick has played in his last competitive hockey game until he suits up for the Wisconsin Badgers next fall. Zulinick's team wrapped up their regular season on Saturday, and did not qualify for the playoffs.
The Kamloops, B.C. native finished his season with 24 goals and 42 assists for 66 points in 54 games. Still one of the younger players in the BCHL, Zulinick was one of just two 17 year olds to finish in the top 20 in points per game.
Zulinick is an elite center that is expected to jump in the Wisconsin lineup next season and make an impact immediately.
Dany Heatley Comments On Grant Besse
Yesterday I wrote about 2014 Wisconsin recruit Grant Besse's unbelievable state championship performance where he recorded all five of his teams goals in a 5-1 victory on Saturday night, lifting Benilde-St. Margaret's to the AA title.
Sunday morning former Badger Dany Heatley, who plays his home games now for the Minnesota Wild in the building where the Minnesota State Championship was held was asked about what the name Grant Besse meant to him?
"Big night last night. Happy for him first of all," Heatley said. "Glad to see him going to a great school like Wisconsin."
Once a Badger, always a Badger.
Kerdiles Season Winding Down
The other 2012 forward recruit that the Badgers will bring in next season is in the home stretch of his hockey season. Nic Kerdiles and his NTDP U18 club have five games remaining in their USHL schedule.
The games will be used as warm-up contests as the team prepares for the U18 World Championships. This year the tournament takes place in the Czech Republic and starts in mid-April. The World Championships are the culmination of two years of work in the USA NTDP program.
Kerdiles currently leads the U18 team in scoring with 34 points in 44 games. In 12 exhibition games against D1 college teams, Kerdiles recorded four goals and six assists.
