Bret Bielema to Arkansas

Leon Halip

A shocker in the college football world, as the three-time Big Ten Conference Championship winning head coach leaves for SEC Country.

UPDATE, 4:24 pm: Potrykus has sources saying Alvarez won't want Bielema to coach the Rose Bowl.

One source wasn't sure if Alvarez would allow that and another suggested it was unlikely Alvarez would want to see Bielema on the sideline in Pasadena knowing he was leaving for Arkansas.

Also, Ben Worgull at BadgerNation.com has an Arkansas source saying Bielema will travel to Fayetteville tonight and be introduced on Wednesday.

UPDATE, 3:40 pm: B5Q founder and current CBSChicago.com sports editor and columnist Adam Hoge reports that "neither side" wants Bielema to coach in the Rose Bowl, and that Wisconsin has a team meeting set for 6 p.m. Tuesday night.

UPDATE, 3:22 pm: Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Bielema is expected to sign a contract at Arkansas worth $4 million per year. Bielema is scheduled to make $2.5 million this year at UW, with a base salary of $400,000.

"It's a done deal," one source said, adding the move surprised many athletic department officials.

To say this is unexpected is an understatement.

But Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports is reporting that Wisconsin Badgers head coach Bret Bielema is going to be working the sidelines in Fayetteville next season. Rumors had it that Bielema was interested in the Tennessee job, but there were absolutely no reports on this. Bielema has had an up-and-down season this year, but he managed to win his third Big Ten Conference Championship on Saturday with a 70-31 win over Nebraska.

It's expected that Bielema's going to be announced as Arkansas' head coach in a press conference on Wednesday, and he has expressed a desire to coach Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl. But as of now, there's no report either way regarding his coaching possibility.

In an ironic twist of fate, today is also the same day Pitt has accepted an invite to the BBVA Compass Bowl. For the third straight season, Pitt has played in this game. Two seasons ago, they fired Dave Wannstedt. Last season, Todd Graham left for Arizona State.

I'm not saying Paul Chryst is leaving, but in this situation, he's a very obvious choice for a potential replacement.
