Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE
A new name emerges in the coaching hunt, and it's somewhat of a surprise.
UPDATE 12:24 CST: Or, you know, not.
If Barry Alvarez was in Ohio on Tuesday, he wasn't intereviewing Matt Campbell. Toledo left for bowl in Boise on Monday night. #badgers

Tom Mulhern of the Wisconsin State Journal reported today that Barry Alvarez was in Northwest Ohio yesterday, under the presumption of interviewing a new head coach. Looking at a map, it does not take much deductive skill to see that the most likely choice of coaches would be Toledo's Matt Campbell.
He would be a rather young hire. At 33, he would be the youngest by a sound margin. But he does have that sort of offensive run centered flavor that seems to fit the Badgers ethos. And I understand that there were really only three good defenses in the Mid-American Conference, #MACtion if you will, but he was the offensive coordinator behind a top ten total and scoring offense in 2011, and with only four returning starters coming back from that offense, and losing a tremendous talent in wide receiver Eric Page, he still managed a top three offensive finish in conference.
But the fact that Alvarez was in Northwest Ohio really might not mean Campbell, it could just as easily be a neutral site for a Bob Diaco or the new home run dream rumor of James Franklin. But it's out there.
