PRESS RELEASE

University of Wisconsin All-American defenseman Justin Schultz, who earned a +7 plus/minus rating and contributed five scoring points to help the host Badgers to a two-game conference sweep over Alaska Anchorage last weekend, is the Red Baron® WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for Jan. 24. This marks the second time this season Schultz has earned the weekly honor (also on Nov. 29).

A 6-2, 185-pound junior from West Kelowna, B.C., Schultz scored once and set up four others in the Jan. 20-21 series, drawing assists on both game-winning goals. A draft choice of the NHL's Anaheim Ducks, he is the nation's top-scoring defenseman this season with 37 points (12g, 25a), averaging 1.54 points per game.

He has also moved into ninth place on UW's all-time point-scoring list for defensemen with 106 in 108 games played and is tied for third place on the all-time goal-scoring list for defensemen with 36, six off the UW record.

Star-divide

In a 4-0 Wisconsin victory over the Seawolves last Friday, Schultz was on the ice for all four Badger goals, setting up the game-winner at 9:04 of the first period, adding an assist on UW's third goal, then scoring his 12th of the season in the third period for a three-point night.

Last Saturday, Schultz then added two more assists in a 3-2 victory, including the primary one on the game-winning goal at 15:57 of the third period. He was on the ice for all of Wisconsin's goals on the weekend and none of UAA's tallies.

Also nominated: Josh Thorimbert, G, CC; Nate Condon, F, UM; Aaron Dell, G, UND; Ryan Faragher, G, SCSU.
