There's a chance the "quarterback battle" is already over.
While there was already little chance Jon Budmayr would beat out Russell Wilson for the starting quarterback job, his chances grew even slimmer Wednesday when the sophomore was held out because of pain in his right elbow, according to Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The injury is similar to the one that sidelined Budmayr as a true freshman and led to him redshirting that season. That one sidelined him for a few weeks and if that happens this time around, Wilson would have to be named the starter for the opener against UNLV.
In Budmayr's absence, redshirt freshman Joe Brennan took reps with the No. 2s.
Meanwhile, Nick Toon left practice early Wednesday -- the team's first with full pads -- with a left foot injury, according to Ben Worgull of BadgerNation.com.
He missed the second half of practice, but returned for interviews without ice on the foot. That's good news, but the Badgers could ill-afford to have Toon limited with foot injuries again. Turf toe slowed Toon down last year and contributed to an inconsistent season.
