The battle with Iowa for the Heartland Trophy returns to the schedule in 2013 and 2014.
The Big Ten released its 2013 and 2014 football schedules Wednesday, which will include two bye weeks and championship games played on December 7, 2013 and December 6, 2014. Each conference season will open with only two games played the first week, with the other eight teams enjoying a bye week.
Here are Wisconsin's 2013 and 2014 conference schedules:
2013
Sept. 28 - at Ohio State
Oct. 5 - BYE
Oct. 12 - Northwestern
Oct. 19 - at Illinois
Oct. 26 - Purdue
Nov. 2 - at Iowa
Nov. 9 - BYE
Nov. 16 - Indiana
Nov. 23 - at Minnesota
Nov. 30 - Penn State
Dec. 7 - Big Ten Championship Game
Reaction: Wisconsin won't play Michigan, Michigan State and Nebraska, but both rivalry games against Iowa and Minnesota will be on the road, which is rare. The opener against Ohio State will receive a lot of attention as the only other Big Ten game that week is Iowa at Minnesota.
2014
Sept. 27 - BYE
Oct. 4 - Iowa
Oct. 11 - at Purdue
Oct. 18 - at Northwestern
Oct. 25 - Illinois
Nov. 1 - Ohio State
Nov. 8 - BYE
Nov. 15 - at Indiana
Nov. 22 - Minnesota
Nov. 29 - at Penn State
Dec. 6 - Big Ten Championship Game
Reaction: The teams are the same as 2013, but notice that Penn State is once again the last game on the schedule. That means UW and Penn State will close the regular season against each other for four straight years starting this fall. I don't know if the Big Ten is trying to create a new rivalry here, but it may just be a coincidence.
