Wisconsin Badgers Player Power Rankings: Offseason
In the inaugural edition of Badger Kickoff 2010, we ranked the 25 best players on the Wisconsin Badgers' roster. Some were ranked too high (Josh Oglesby at No. 13), some were ranked too low (Montee Ball at No. 25) and some weren't ranked at all (Peter Konz and James White). But for the most part, the player power rankings accurately depicted which players were going to have the biggest impact in 2010.
Unfortunately, six of the top seven players we had ranked are now gone. Nick Toon, who we had ranked at No. 5, is the only one of those players remaining. So who else is left?
Here are our updated player power rankings as we head into the offseason (with 2010 ranking and 2011 eligibility noted):
1. Montee Ball (25) - Junior running back
2. James White (NR) - Sophomore running back
3. Nick Toon (5) - Senior wide receiver
4. Chris Borland (8) - Sophomore linebacker
5. Ricky Wagner (NR) - Junior left tackle
6. Peter Konz (NR) - Junior center
7. Jordan Kohout (21) - Sophomore defensive tackle
8. Aaron Henry (15) - Senior free safety
9. Mike Taylor (9) - Junior linebacker
10. Patrick Butrym (12) - Senior defensive tackle
11. Kevin Zeitler (18) - Senior offensive guard
12. Philip Welch (10) - Senior kicker
13. Brad Nortman (16) - Senior punter
14. Travis Frederick (19) - Sophomore offensive lineman
15. Louis Nzegwu (20) - Senior defensive end
16. Bradie Ewing (NR) - Senior fullback
17. Jacob Pedersen (NR) - Sophomore tight end
18. Antonio Fenelus (24) - Senior cornerback
19. Jon Budmayr (NR) - Sophomore quarterback
20. Jared Abbrederis (NR) - Sophomore wide receiver
21. Jake Byrne (NR) - Senior tight end
22. Devin Smith (23) - Senior cornerback
23. Josh Oglesby (13) - Senior right tackle
24. Manasseh Garner (NR) - Sophomore wide receiver/defensive end
25. Jeff Lewis (NR) - Freshman running back
As with any rankings, these are sure to cause some debate. So let's discuss...

Okay
Antonio Fenelus is WAY too low. He’s more like top 15. And Nzegwu needs to start regularly popping up on the box score before he goes ahead of…well, anyone.

Yeah Nzegwu might be a little high.
And I just have a hard time giving any Wisconsin cornerbacks credit so Fenelus is where he is.
Bucky's 5th Quarter. SB Nation's Wisconsin Badgers community.
I would also suggest adding ZBrown at the bottom of the list.
I could see Pederson, Fenelus, and Henry going pretty high on that list.
No relation to this, but what’s the status of Curt Phillips? Does it look like he’s out until summer?

Yeah he's going to miss the spring.
It is second ACL tear, but he believes he’ll be ready for next season.

ZBrown is going to be 4th or 5th string RB next year
Good guy though.
Shouldn’t Beau Allen be on this list? I could see Sheldon Johnson getting on the list as well.
I’d expect to see Pederson be the go-to guy at TE next year, not Byrne.

I thought about Beau, but I thought he was a little inconsistent this season. Butrym and Kohout were excellent though so that certainly limited his PT.
I agree with you on Pedersen. That’s why I have him ranked ahead of Byrne.

Duh, my bad on Pederson
Maybe just optimism with Allen, I liked him a lot out of HS and thought he did OK as a true freshman. Expecting him to take a big jump next year.

Yeah I think he's ready to start if there is an injury.
And he’ll surely be a two-year starter after Butrym graduates next year.

Yeah even if he doesn't start...
It’d be awesome to have enough quality depth to rotate guys in and out.
They need to improve the push from the DT position – Butrym only had 3 TFL, Kohurt 1.5 and Allen didn’t have any

I disagree with that
this year is his very last year of eligibility. Bielema’s going to get ZBrown playing time.

Over who?
Not Ball or White.
Lewis and Gordon both matter more to the future of the program and its important they get playing time for their development. It’d be like letting Dustin Scherer get snaps in 2009 because it was his last year in the program.
Could see him get a chance on kickoff returns or something like that. Obviously could play if there was an injury.
Brown knows this, if he wants to play he’ll go to a DII school like Western Illinois – if he is fine with getting his education for free and being part of the team he’ll stay with UW.
