Wrapping up Day 1 in Chicago
CHICAGO - Here are some tidbits from our second media session with Bret Bielema on Monday:
- Some of you might have heard the rumors that Beau Allen has some kind of heart condition. There's a reason why this hasn't been reported on this site and that's because he is apparently just fine. Bielema said Monday that Allen is completely healthy and that Jay Valai has been raving about the freshman defensive tackle.
- Center Peter Konz has been cleared for full-contact work after missing the end of last season because of blood clots in his lungs. Bielema said the center position has not been decided yet, but this could open the door for John Moffitt to move back to guard. UW's offensive line is very deep and versatile so it will be fun to watch the coaches sort out of the line this month.
- As I expected, sophomore QB Curt Phillips is on the fast track to recovery after tearing his ACL in the spring. He is already dropping back and throwing passes, according to Bielema, and he could be ready to go by the start of the Big Ten season. This is good news for a quarterback group that would have depth problems if Phillips can't play this season.
- There could be some competition at safety. Bielema said Aaron Henry might be limited in practice and Conor O'Neill is one player who is pushing him for the starting job. With that said, Bielema also said he is happy with what Henry has done.
Tomorrow we will have the chance to talk to Scott Tolzien, John Clay and Jay Valai so get ready for some good stuff Tuesday.

Aaron Henry suffered another nagging injury?
OR is it all smoke and mirrors devised to fool UNLV and ASU…
My kingdom for a spellchecker. Or Devin Harris. Hopefully both.

Never know..
Hopefully smoke and mirrors though, cause our secondary is a little thin.
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. ~ Terence Mann

Not really sure. It's possible it's still the same knee.
I’ll clear it up tomorrow when I get a one-on-one with Bret.
