Badgers John Clay Deserves Heisman Hype

Wisconsin Badgers Junior RB John Clay’s name will become a house hold name by the end of the 2010 college football season.  Clay is getting mentioned on some sites as a Heisman Trophy candidate, however he is also not getting nearly the amount of respect he deserves.

The 2009 Big Ten Offensive Player of The Year is coming off of a sensational Sophomore season in which he totaled 1,517 yards on the ground with 18 TD’s.  Needless to say he didn’t become the full time starter until the Iowa game in week seven.  From that point forward he took the ball and ran with it as he finished the season with six straight games over 100 yards rushing.  He also scored 11 TD’s, and averaged 133 yards a game on the ground during that six game span.  Another staggering stat is he finished 8th in the Nation in rushing while only starting 8 games.

Another reason to watch out for John Clay this year is that the entire offensive line returns for Badger team that finished 10 - 3 a year ago and led the Big Ten in rushing with an average of over 200 yards per game.  Clay will get the full load of carries this year for a team that loves to pound the ball, and if  Clay stays healthy 2,000 yards and 20 TD‘s will be well within reach.  Those numbers look like a Heisman Trophy winner, it’s time the radar has John Clay’s name on it.
