Mapping the Bracket
I like to look at/make maps, and I thought that this would be a cool time to make a map of the teams in the NCAA tournament. Well, last week would have been a good time to make that map, but better late than never.
I didn't have time (yet) to make maps of the last 5-10 years, so it is hard to say if the cluster of schools from the Washington, D.C./Philly region down approximately the west side of the Appalachians to northeast Texas is par for the course or not. It does seem like there is a gaping hole in the plains states, and the Mountain Time Zone just disappears in the Sweet 16 map.
Thoughts? I considered color coding the schools in the Sweet 16 by conference, but 11 distinct colors is difficult to pull off.

I hate to be the geography Nazi,
but it appears you’ve located Vanderbilt in Memphis. Nashville should be in the North Central part of Tennessee.
Less memorable than Sam Okey's Hawkeye career.
embarrassing.
No apologies necessary – thanks for pointing it out. These aren’t accurate beyond what I could do in Illustrator, but still. Hopefully that’s the only one…

The Murray State-Vanderbilt matchup in the first round was interesting in that the two schools are located so closely together. It’s about a 2 hour drive between the two.
