Oakland is certainly athletic

While the Badgers will have more success this year, the Golden Grizzlies present a tough matchup tonight.

Missing tonight's game

Just discovered the game is on BigTenNetwork.com, and they want $3 to watch it. This weekend, I watched a Horizon League game for free. WTF, Big Ten?

That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.

by Kyle Lobner on Nov 18, 2009 7:09 PM CST reply actions

Live in Rochester, MI. Watched the IPFW game on BTN; they advertised the game would be on BTN tonight, and now you’ve got Butler/Northwestern on. Great advertising.

by Bryan Everson (The Royalty of Roto) on Nov 18, 2009 7:11 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah

I tuned into BTN, not having checked. Very disappointing.

That's all I've got for you today, unless you're interested in some Chris Capuano/Tom Haudricourt Fan Fiction.

Sloppy play by the Badgers...

Turned it over but got back quickly on the other end to prevent an easy layup. Bad offense, good defense.

If anyone wants any info on OU

Welcome to dish it. Had a chance to watch you guys against IPFW like I mentioned, obviously same conference but IPFW is much farther down the ladder than Oakland in the conference.

Oakland commits its 7th foul

Timeout on the floor, Badgers up 16-12 nearly halfway through the first half

Having worked at the Big Ten Network...

I am really disappointed that they have gone with more regular season games online and are now charging for it. I thought the whole point of the Big Ten Network was that ALL the games would be on TV.

In the past, this game would at least be shown in Madison on ESPN+.

Yeah, I mean I’m used to us not having our games on TV. You guys, I would be pissed.

We'll try and keep you guys updated tonight

Everson, it’s clear after just nine minutes of play the Golden Grizzlies are not the Mastodons

Pass from Leuer and the Badgers up 20-12

Oakland seems content to start jacking up threes

Two questionable long shots on that possession led to nothing

-Jake Harris

Shot 4-for-22 against Eastern Michigan last Saturday, terrible from the stripe too.

by Bryan Everson (The Royalty of Roto) on Nov 18, 2009 7:23 PM CST up reply actions

Trevon Hughes

Takes it right down the lane and floats it into the bucket. Badgers up 10, timeout Oakland.

Another missed three by Oakland

And an easy rebound for Nankivil. These teams have two very different styles

-Jake Harris

by Jake Harris on Nov 18, 2009 7:24 PM CST reply actions

Turnover by the Grizzlies

Badgers have it, Leuer can’t hit the three though.

Either they now allow fans to bring signs into the Kohl Center...

Or there’s some type of promotional night. Lots of students with posters tonight.

Struggle for the ball underneath Wisconsin's basket

Technological fail

by Kyle Lobner on Nov 18, 2009 7:29 PM CST reply actions

Sounds like Benson got mugged under the basket after pulling down that rebound.

-Jake Harris

by Jake Harris on Nov 18, 2009 7:31 PM CST reply actions

So far Oakland has committed a lot of fouls...

And taken a lot of bad three-point attempts

-Jake Harris

by Jake Harris on Nov 18, 2009 7:31 PM CST reply actions

Oakland graduated Erik Kangas last year, who was in ESPN’s 3 pt. shootout and shot about 42% on his career from beyond the arc.

by Bryan Everson (The Royalty of Roto) on Nov 18, 2009 7:34 PM CST up reply actions

Hughes makes both

26-14 Wisconsin. Trevon has 9 points so far

-Jake Harris

by Jake Harris on Nov 18, 2009 7:31 PM CST reply actions

Ryan Evans with a defensive rebound

-Jake Harris

by Jake Harris on Nov 18, 2009 7:34 PM CST reply actions

No bias, but

Before the game, Detroit announcers mentioned how you guys really get the calls in Madison at home. Just got the first foul called

by Bryan Everson (The Royalty of Roto) on Nov 18, 2009 7:36 PM CST reply actions

Another straight-up awful three-point attempt by Oakland

They are 0-of-8 in that department tonight. This one was airballed over the rim from the baseline

-Jake Harris

by Jake Harris on Nov 18, 2009 7:36 PM CST reply actions

I'll admit the Badgers get their share of calls at the Kohl Center (and then some)

But Oakland seems to have no answer for Leuer’s size and Hughes’ penetration, other than to keep hacking away

-Jake Harris

by Jake Harris on Nov 18, 2009 7:38 PM CST reply actions

Still clearly struggling to find a 3 pt. shooter to replace Kangas. Larry Wright is a Big East transfer, averaged over 40% from 3 in 2 years

Oakland finally makes a three

Now 1-of-9 in that category

Not sure where, but sounded like Hudson had some family at the game. Here’s from Wisconsin.

Wisconsin calls timeout

Jarmusz was trapped close to the near sideline with nowhere to pass the ball

Before we do, I have a little story...

I got into the elevator on the lower level after picking up my media notes and two large Diet Cokes before the game…(they don’t give us free food anymore so I take full advantage of the free drink)…a lady and her husband come into the elevator on the first floor, and I then had the following conversation with the lady.

Lady: Is there liquor in those drinks?? (clearly excited by the prospect)
Me: [laughs] No, I wish, just Diet Coke, ma’am.
Lady: Well, you never know what goes on down there. I thought maybe it was something good, like a nice Brandy/Coke.

Welcome to Wisconsin.

-Jake Harris

by Jake Harris on Nov 18, 2009 7:52 PM CST reply actions

Hope you didn't spill the Coke when the elevator jumped at the end of the ride

I’ll never forget when Eric Levine and I were in the elevator and a drunk guy tells the elevator lady: “Whoops, you almost missed it.”

Hudson: “We’re playing against a bunch of big schools. It’s a real big opportunity to play against major schools for exposure.”

While we're bored.

Glad to see you guys tromp the Wolverines this year. Michigan fans are REALLY buzzing right now about how bad it’s getting poured on.

I had a chance to see both the Michigan and the Michigan State football games against Wisconsin last year; not the high points of your season I’m sure

by Bryan Everson (The Royalty of Roto) on Nov 18, 2009 7:58 PM CST reply actions

Football team has really bounced back this year...

Amazing how a coach can go from the hot seat to a potential Big Ten Coach of the Year candidate in one season.

Moreso than the 8-2 record, the way they’ve played this year with so many underclassmen in key roles has been impressive. Dramatically cutting down the penalties, reestablishing the run game, playing with more heart/toughness on defense… all good signs for Wisco.

-Jake Harris

by Jake Harris on Nov 18, 2009 8:01 PM CST reply actions

Leuer picks up right where he left off

Score the first points of the second half, 36-23 Wisconsin

Nice block by Nankivil!

And a struggle for the loose ball at center court. Badgers grab a hold of it and call timeout quickly…. Large cheer from the crowd. Wisconsin is playing solid fundamental basketball tonight, up 40-26

Another God-awful three-point attempt by Oakland

This one barely grazed the far side of the rim. They are an astounding 1-of-12 from beyond the arc

1-for-13

I would lay off but it’s amazing how bad their shooting has been and how good the Badgers’ perimeter defense has been

-Jake Harris

by Jake Harris on Nov 18, 2009 8:20 PM CST reply actions

Leuer gets the friendly bounce on the back part of the rim

Jumper goes in and it’s 46-26 as Oakland takes a timeout

-Jake Harris

by Jake Harris on Nov 18, 2009 8:21 PM CST reply actions

Interesting little contest during this timeout...

Two fans had to name Badger basketball players in alternating fashion until one hesitated or got stuck…

The first contestant started out with Tim Jarmusz, which I thought was a little odd…

The second said Marcus Landry and lost.

I’m sure Barry has no designs on using this as part of any promotional materials about Wisconsin’s knowledgeable fan base

53-32 Wisconsin

Northwestern down by 17 to #10 Butler

-Jake Harris

by Jake Harris on Nov 18, 2009 8:30 PM CST reply actions

Line was -5.5 Butler. Took the under. Way too small with a) a better Butler team, and b) NW’s star player out.

by Bryan Everson (The Royalty of Roto) on Nov 18, 2009 8:31 PM CST up reply actions

Just thought I’d add how disappointing this game is for our team. Totally underwhelming start, and we have Kansas, Syracuse, Michigan State, and Memphis among others still coming up in the next three weeks.

by Bryan Everson (The Royalty of Roto) on Nov 18, 2009 8:33 PM CST reply actions

Don't get too down...

Wisconsin is very underrated… This is a team that has not finished below fourth in the Big Ten in Bo’s eight years in Madison. Also, even in “down” years (I love that people think this program has had down years in its 11-season tournament streak), the Badgers don’t lose at the Kohl Center, except to really good teams.

Nankivil with a block!

Disappointing. Really feel like we’re capable of competing with any team in the bottom half of the Big 10 this year, at least.

We played good defense, but failed to make shots. Look forward to watching you guys more in Big 10 play. Come over to the fantasy blog of the site where I’m at if you guys ever need any advice or anything. Thanks for the PBP guys.

by Bryan Everson (The Royalty of Roto) on Nov 18, 2009 8:49 PM CST reply actions

Despite what the prognosticators are saying...

Most of us who cover this team closely are shocked by the bottom-half-of-the-Big-Ten predictions. The 2009-10 Badgers may not be as loaded as some of the teams Bo has had over the past several seasons, but will they really be the first team to finish in the bottom half of the conference since the 1997-98 team finished 9th?

Losing to Wisconsin at the Kohl Center should not be considered a huge disappointment for any but the most elite teams in the nation.

I can see being disappointed in the way Oakland played tonight. Their shooting was horrific and, believe it or not, I don’t think the stats show just how ugly it was. But don’t worry too much about the result.

-Jake Harris

Thanks so much for this thread.

On a night when the BTN made the Badgers tough to follow, I don’t feel like I missed a thing. Keep up the good work!
